Charging Point (MCP) is excited to announce the completion of the first of two major projects with TT-Line Company for the Spirit of Tasmania, an Australian ferry service. These projects were awarded to MCP in early 2024. MCP has installed its CYAN EV Charging System on the new Spirit of Tasmania IV ferry, which was completed in 2024. The second ferry, Spirit of Tasmania V, is still being built in Finland and is expected to be finished in 2025.

The two modern RoPax ferries, each 212 meters long, can carry up to 3,700 meters of passenger and freight vehicles. They will operate between Geelong on mainland Australia and Devonport in Tasmania, with a journey time of 9.5 to 11.5 hours. Passengers on board will now be able to charge their EVs while traveling.

The charging system on both ferries includes 20 AC charging points on the car deck, providing up to 150kW of charging power per system. This will allow EV passengers to charge their vehicles while the ferry is in motion, ensuring they can continue their journey with a full battery once they arrive.

MCP’s CYAN EV Charging System meets the strictest maritime safety standards and has been class-approved by Lloyd’s Register. The system includes real-time monitoring and alarm functions to ensure safe charging and alert the crew if there are any risks with the connected EV.

John Anastassiou, Project Technical Manager for Spirit of Tasmania, commented, “I think this is a great product, and I believe it will become the new industry standard!”

We would like to thank the Spirit of Tasmania team for trusting us with these innovative projects and for the great teamwork with other partners like IAS supplier Valmet and the shipyard, Rauma Marine Constructions.

With these projects, Marine Charging Point is expanding its global reach, actively working on marine electrification projects in over 30 countries worldwide. We are proud to be bringing our solutions to a new continent.

29.4.2026
Marine Charging Point Attends Singapore Maritime Week
LEARN MORE

13.8.2025
Marine Charging Point to Present at Interferry 2025
LEARN MORE

23.6.2025
Marine Charging Point Attends Electric & Hybrid Marine World Expo 2025
LEARN MORE

Marine Charging Point Completes First Project with Spirit of Tasmania Marine Charging Point (MCP) is excited to announce the completion of the first of two major projects with TT-Line Company for the Spirit of Tasmania, an Australian ferry service.
