Press Release
Marine Charging Point (MCP) is excited to announce the successful completion of two major projects for Öresundslinjen (formerly ForSea) in Denmark and Sweden. The two projects are installed on the fully battery-powered ferries, M/S Tycho Brahe and M/S Aurora. These ferries now feature the most powerful onboard DC EV charging systems in the world, with over 600kW of combined charging power each.
On these zero-emission ferries, operating a 20-minute route between Helsingør, Denmark, and Helsingborg, Sweden, passengers can now charge their Electric Vehicles (EVs) with up to 160kW of DC power, giving up to 250 kilometers of range during the trip. Each ferry is equipped with eight DC charging points on the car deck, along with MCP’s CYAN EV Charging Management System. A card payment solution at each station ensures a smooth and fast charging experience for all EV passengers, making the ferry a great alternative to the Öresund bridge.
The installation has passed rigorous regulatory approvals from the Danish Maritime Authority (DMA), the Swedish Transport Agency (Transportstyrelsen), and received class approval from Lloyd’s Register.
We want to thank Öresundslinjen for their trust and collaboration, along with our professional partners – ABB, OSK Shiptech, Blueflow Energy Management, and Volvo Cars. A big thank you also goes out to our dedicated suppliers and partners for their hard work.
Marine Charging Point is expanding its onboard EV charging projects in over 31 countries, with exciting growth and innovation ahead. The Nordic and European tech scene is thriving, and there’s more to come!
